Your tour begins in the capital city of Saarland, in the very Western part of Germany. The region was the focus of German and French interests for centuries and was completely destroyed in 1677 and rebuilt as a Baroque city. Saarbrücken - Mettlach, approx. 60 km

Cycling along the Saar you will come to Saarlouis, which was once a fortified town. Then the industrial history of the region comes to the fore. In Völklingen you will find the Völklingen Ironworks which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit here is like an adventure. The dark passageways lead you deep into the burden shed and then you will climb up to the lofty heights of the blast furnace viewing-platform. Later in the day you will reach Mettlach which is located on the Saar Bend.

Mettlach - Treves, approx. 40 km

In the morning you will have the chance to walk to the viewing point of the Saar Bend; the fantastic panoramic view is definitely worth the small effort. Then you will continue along the Saar Cycle Path through beautiful forests. You will be able to see the castle which towers over the town of Saarburg with its winding laneways from a distance. In Treves you shouldn’t miss the historical town centre or you could visit the Roman gate of Porta Nigra.

Treves - Piesport, approx. 45 km

In the Moselle Valley you will come into contact with the Roman and the winegrowing culture of the region. Today you will be able to view a very special relic from Ancient times: The Rustica in Mehring was reconstructed according to original plans and showcases the Roman way of life on their estates. In Trittenheim, wine lovers and connoisseurs are in for treat as you can stroll around the informative vineyard path and learn all there is to know about winegrowing. You will then be able to taste a little of the exquisite wine in Neumagen-Dhron.

Piesport - Traben-Trarbach, approx. 40 km

In the timber-framed small town of Bernkastel-Kues you will be able to admire the very pretty Market Square before continuing on to Zeltingen, a traditional winegrowing village with monastery gardens in the Moselle Baroque style. Continuing on along the Moselle you will pass through Kröv with its famous “Kröver Nacktarsch” vineyard before coming to Traben-Trarbach. This small town is a gem filled with buildings in the Classical and Jugendstil styles.

Traben-Trarbach - Cochem, approx. 55 km

Passing through Zell, which is well-known for its "Zeller Schwarze Katz", you will continue on to Beilstein, the “Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle”. The village is really similar to that of a storybook landscape! The village has changed little over the past few centuries, retaining its medieval flair. Soon you will reach Cochem, which is surrounded by rolling, wooded hills. Home to the red Moselle-Weinbergpfirsichs, the town has a picturesque centre and the old Imperial Castle attracts visitors year after year.

Cochem - Koblenz, approx. 50 km

Today you will continue on at a fast pace along well developed cycle paths on your way to Koblenz. In Kobern-Gondorf don’t forget to visit the oldest timber-framed building in Germany, the Abteihof dating from 1320! As you will have improved your level of fitness during the course of the holiday a detour to the well-known Eltz Fortress is recommended.  Or why not finish off your holiday relaxing in the Old Town of Koblenz?
