Day trip cycling from Treves - Moselle Valley

For cycling tourists who don’t want to move to a new hotel every day, we offer our day cycling trip tour from a base in Treves. Your hotel Deutscher Hof at the edge of the attractive and historic Old Town of Treves is an ideal starting point for your excursions along the Moselle and its two tributaries: the Saar and Sauer. The picturesque landscape between the Moselle vineyards, the Saar Bend and Luxembourgish Switzerland are waiting to be discovered by you. As the daily stages of this tour can be individually tailored to suit your needs, this tour is also suitable for those unused to cycling long distances.

Day 1
Treves

Individual Arrival in Treves

Treves is a fascinating town and was once the capital of the Western Roman Empire. You can visit the Porta Nigra, the best preserved Roman city gates north of the Alps, or the basilica, the largest preserved ancient roofed structure. The thermal baths give visitors a good insight into the Roman bathing culture and traffic has been crossing the Roman bridge since 1860. If you have booked a rental bike, it will be waiting for you in your hotel.

You will be able to test the famous Moselle wine in one of the small villages. You can follow along the Moselle Cycle Path for as long as you want – visit nearby Trittenheim and the wine taverns of the Moselle boats located there or you stop at Bernkastel-Kues to view the medieval market place with its timber-framed houses. You can then return to Treves by boat or with the cyclists’ bus service (not included).
